Dear BC Minister of Education, Jennifer Whiteside,

-       Did you know there is a growing Chronic Health Disability known as Electrosensitivity (EHS) aka Microwave Sickness, caused by the accumulative and prolonged exposure to microwave radiation emitting from industrial strength Wifi routers and wireless devices?

-       Did you know that about 5% of the population has severe sensitivity (in Canada, more than one million people) and roughly a third of the population have mild to moderate symptoms when they are exposed?

-       Did you know the symptoms of EHS, include severe headaches, fatigue, stress, sleep disturbances, skin symptoms such as prickling, burning sensations and rashes, muscle aches, nausea, nose bleeds, dizziness and heart palpitations?

-       Did you know The Canadian Human Rights Commission recognizes EHS and states those living with environmental sensitivities are entitled to the protection of the Canadian Human Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability? 

-       Did you know the WHO and the CHRC, recommend reasonable accommodation such as hard-wired connections to reduce exposure, especially for children who are most vulnerable to the ill effects?

-       Did you know despite doctors' written requests for these children to avoid microwave radiation exposure in our schools they have been denied accommodation and left with no choice but home schooling?

-       Did you know that it is mandatory that every child attending school will be exposed to microwave radiation 6 hours a day 5 days a week?

-       Did you know teachers suffering from EHS are forced into early retirement?

-       Did you know EHS has been described by patients as a ‘loner's disease’?

-       Did you know EHS is generally ignored, ridiculed or denied in much the same way that many other conditions such as ulcerative colitis, migraine headaches, multiple sclerosis and post-traumatic stress disorder were summarily dismissed in the past? ( Pall, 2007).

-       Did you know on Dec 3, 2018 John Horgan stated “all persons with disabilities should have barrier-free access to full and equal participation in society, making communities more accessible and inclusive” yet children with EHS have been denied inclusion?

-       Did you know BC’s Inclusive education programs provides educational services for all students with special needs in the regular classroom except for children with EHS?

-       Did you know Inclusion Canada claims to lead the way in building an inclusive Canada by transforming communities into places where everyone belongs except anyone with Electrosensitivity?

-       Did you know June 16, 2021 is the 4th Annual Electrosensitivity Day?

Our question is: Why have children with EHS been denied their right to Inclusion in their home school?

-       Did you know Verizon informed their investors: "Our wireless business also faces personal injury and consumer class action lawsuits related to alleged health effects of wireless phones or radio frequency transmitters, and class action lawsuits that challenge marketing practices and disclosures relating to alleged adverse health effects of handheld wireless phones.  We may incur significant expenses in defending these lawsuits.  In addition, we may be required to pay significant awards or settlements." 

 

-       Did you know there are thousands of peer reviewed studies proving adverse biological effects from wireless radiation including reproductive dysfunction, single- and double-stranded DNA breaks, creation of reactive oxygen species, immune dysfunction, stress protein synthesis in the brain, altered brain development, sleep and memory disturbances, and increased brain tumors?

 

-       Did you know that a person is considered a heavy user when using their cell phone for 30 minutes a day?

 

-       Did you know that Dr. Hardell’s research showed that adults who started using cell or cordless phones as teenagers had a 8-fold higher risk of brain cancer on the side of their head where they held the phone?

 

-       Did you know In 2015 Lerchl et al published an important replication study, which confirms that wireless, acts as a tumor promoter; lymphomas and tumors of the lungs and livers in exposed animals were significantly higher?

 

-       Did you know research has shown an associated RF exposure with altered neurodevelopment and behavioural disorders, structural and functional changes in the brain and the sensitivity of pollinators?

 

-       Did you know microwave radiation exposure from cell phones adversely affects the quality of human sperm?

 

-       Did you know research shows chronic exposure to wireless reduces brain cells and causes brain cell death in the memory and learning centers of the brain?

 

-       Did you know many studies have now demonstrated that wireless signals can damage cognitive abilities such as learning, memory, attention, and reaction times?

 

-       Did you know studies have shown that behavioral problems in mice that resemble ADHD are caused by cell phone exposure in the womb?

 

-       Did you know Epidemiological studies have shown associations between exposure to cell phones prenatally and postnatally is associated with behavioral difficulties such as emotional and hyperactivity problems?

 

-       Did you know heavy cell phone use results in high-frequency hearing loss and inner ear damage and has also shown a significant risk of tumors on the auditory nerve in the brain (acoustic neuromas)?

 

Our question is: Why are you exposing our children to microwave radiation when there is a safer and faster alternative to connect to the Internet?

-       Did you know school officials refer to Health Canada and Safety Code 6 for their information on the safety of wireless technology in our schools?

-       Did you know that the Health Canada’s website in many respects is an opinion piece written by an unknown author, supporting the wireless industry by presenting inaccurate and false information about the safety of wireless technology?

-       Did you know Health Canada was unable to present parents, teachers and student with any peer-reviewed studies by medical experts or scientists to support their claims of “no health risks” from the biological effects of prolonged exposure to microwave radiation?

-       Did you know that on February 20, 2013, James McNamee, scientist for Health Canada, admitted in the Superior Court of Quebec, that the Safety Code 6 guideline for microwave radiation emitting from wireless technology is based ONLY on thermal effects, whether it heats the skin in 6 minutes?

-       Did you know this means Health Canada does not have any regulations in place to protect the public from long-term exposure to the proven biological effects of the “non-thermal” levels of microwave radiation?

-       Did you know that scientists, medical experts and safety advocates spoke before Parliament’s Standing Committee on the outdated, incomplete and invalid guidelines of Safety Code 6 and asked Health Canada to approve the 12 recommendations presented by the HESA Committee?

-      Did you know Health Canada states that they  “continuously monitor the research and scientific literature on the health effects of RF exposure” yet Health Canada fails to meet the test of international standards that requires rigorous scientific methods, transparency, full public consultation from initial scoping throughout the process and health-protective precautionary interpretation of findings?

-       Did you know Health Canada has never completed a proper review of the scientific evidence that meets international standards, nor has it published any of its investigations?

-       Did you know Health Canada shows complete disregard for the $30 million US National Toxicology Program study with more than 2,000 rodents that showed clear evidence of cancer and DNA damage—despite the fact that this study passed through peer-review three times before publication?

-       Did you know Dr. Anthony Miller, a Canadian MD epidemiologist who has been awarded the Medal of Honour by the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and in 2019 was named a Member of the Order of Canada, stated, “When considered with recent animal experimental evidence, the recent epidemiological studies strengthen and support the conclusion that RFR [RF Radiation] should be categorized as carcinogenic to humans (IARC Group 1).”

-       Did you know the guidelines in Health Canada’s Safety Code 6, which ISED relies on to regulate the microwave radiation emitting from all wireless devices, were first established in 1979?

-       Did you know the regulation of cell phones and other wireless communication devices is the responsibility of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), yet the ISED has ignored the fact that some popular cells phones are emitting RF radiation 4 - 11 times over the current Safety Code 6 guidelines?

Our question is:  Why would school officials rely on Health Canada for safety advice on Microwave Radiation Exposure when Health Canada is presenting inaccurate and false information?

 -       Did you know Dr. Richard Stanwick, our Vancouver Island School Health Officer, has endorsed the installation of microwave radiation, a known 2B carcinogen listed next to lead, DDT, methyl mercury, chloroform, and car exhaust as an acceptable risk in our schools? 

 -       Did you know that parents, teachers and students were never told what the risks were from microwave radiation exposure?

 -       Did you know that parents never signed a consent form allowing the public school system to expose their children to a known 2B Carcinogen, microwave radiation, 6 hours a day 5 days a week?

 -       Did you know no one has put an exposure control plan in place in our classrooms?

 -       Did you know no one is measuring the radiation levels when 25 cell phones and 25 chrome books downloading in just one classroom, surrounded by multiple commercial Wi-Fi routers, white boards with overhead projectors, wireless audio systems throughout the school, surrounded by cell towers, small cells, and Wi-Fi hotspots?

 -       Did you know no one is educating students and staff of the safe use of wireless products as per the federally mandated safety manual?

 -       Did you know no one assesses and controls the amount of microwave radiation our children are exposed to, identifying the risks, monitoring the health of our children and documenting the results? 

-       Did you know if a child is going on a field trip, parents are required to sign a consent form stating where this child is going, how long they are going to be, who is taking them, what they are going to do, what time they will leave and what time they will be back?

 -       Did you know the schools’ insurance company requires these forms to be signed before they will insure these children in case of any injuries on a school field trip?

 -       Did you know In February 2015, Lloyds of London officially reiterated its long-held policy to exclude any liability coverage for injuries, “Directly or indirectly arising out of, resulting from, or contributed to by electromagnetic fields, electromagnetic radiation, radio waves or noise.”  (Exclusion 32)  This would include microwave wireless radiation emitted from the commercial grade Wi-Fi transmitters and the multiple wireless devices.

 -       Did you know our children are not covered by liability insurance for any microwave radiation injuries that occur with the mandatory exposure in our schools?

 Our question is: Did you know for as little as a one time cost of $500 US dollars every classroom could be provided with 40 Ethernet ports plus adapters for their wireless devices, costing about $20 per child, a small price to pay compared to brain surgery, chemotherapy, radiation treatments etc.?

-       Did you know that in BC there are no EMF Scientists or Medical Experts who study the biological or health effects of non-ionizing electromagnetic fields?

-       Did you know in an email September 2018, Tom Kosatsky, BCCDC, in response to Dr. Bonnie Henry request for an expert opinion said, “ while I am not a cancer epidemiologist, nor a specialist in the health effects of non-ionizing radiation...”

-       Did you know in an email September 2018, Tom Kosatsky, BCCDC said “I believe the association of meningiomas with frequent and longer duration use of 3G and earlier cellphone use is compelling, and justifies public health as well as manufacturers' advice to avid direct contact between the phone and the user's head. Texting, Bluetooth and earphone use as well possibly the adoption of modern 4G devices would also be in line with this advice.”

-       Did you know In 2013, almost 8 years ago, the BC Center for Disease Control, cautioned in their 400 page report on RF/EMR that their findings are consistent with many international experts who continue to warn that prolonged exposure to low levels of microwave radio frequency radiation from wireless devices that include wi-fi, ipads, cell phones, cordless phones and smart meters, can lead to serious health effects such as infertility and cancer, children especially at risk?

-       Did you know Dr. Bonnie Henry has been unable to provide us with a copy of the studies and the recent publications that she said her department recently "reviewed" along with the names of the scientists and medical experts who stated microwave radiation exposure is safe as per letter dated Jan. 4, 2019?

-       Did you know Dr. Bonnie Henry has refused to provide us with an official response to the 2018, current findings of the two 10 year long studies on 2G and 3G technology by US National Toxicology Program and the supporting Ramazzini Institute Study that confirmed the link to Cancer from all prolonged wireless radiation exposure including cell tower radiation?

-       Did you know that Dr. Bonnie Henry is using the BC Cancer Agency for a reference for Wi-Fi safety in our schools when this agency clearly have a vested interest in supporting the wireless industry in return for millions of dollars in donations?  Telus, Glentel and BC Hydro are long time supporters of this organization.

-       Did you know health is a Provincial Jurisdiction and Dr. Bonnie Henry has an obligation and a duty to protect our children by taking the reasonable steps to reduce wireless radiation in our schools given the overwhelming amount of evidence of harm?

-       Did you know Dr. Bonnie Henry states in her email that “. . . and we continue to recommend people make personal choices to reduce their exposure?”

Our question is: How can parents make a “Personal Choice” to protect their children when microwave radiation exposure is mandatory 6 hours a day 5 days a week in all our public schools?
